WHAT IS THE DE PAC ARIZONA PROJECT?
The Democracy Engine Inc PAC Arizona Project is an effort to turn the AZ Senate seat and 2nd Congressional California district blue in 2018.
WHAT IS THE DEMOCRACY ENGINE INC PAC?
Democracy Engine Inc PAC is a political committee (seperate segregated fund) registered with the Federal Election Commission.
HOW DOES THE PROJECT WORK?
In a nutshell: we let you donate now (even before the nominee is known) to each of the eventual Democratic nominees for Congress in these targeted races in 2018. We take your donation, divide it into two parts and hold onto the money until a Democratic nominee is selected in the primary in August. Then we send them the money.
In more legalistic terms (for the lawyers and campaign finance geeks out there): the funds you donate via this website are contributions to Democracy Engine Inc PAC that are then designated (“earmarked” in campaign finance regulation-speak) to each of the Democratic nominees for Arizona Senate seat and the Arizona 2nd Congressional district in the 2018 general election in accordance with FEC Advisory Opinion 1982-23.
In the event there is no Democratic nominee in a district, the funds for that district will be redesignated as a donation to Democracy Engine Inc. PAC.
WHEN WILL THE NOMINEES GET MY MONEY?
Democracy Engine Inc PAC will hold onto your donations for each nominee until the primary election (June 5, 2018). We then have 10 days to send your money (along with everyone else's) to the newly nominated Democrat.
All donations—along with all disbursements—are reported to the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Reporting is quarterly and the FEC makes all reports available online, so you can always check on your donations and our distributions.
WHAT ABOUT FEES?
First off, 100% of your donations will go to the candidates - so if you’re donating $5.00 to each of them, that’s exactly what you’re donating. But, credit cards are not free and just like everyone else (including ActBlue, Kickstarter and PayPal), we have to account for processing fees. Democracy Engine Inc PAC relies on Democracy Engine LLC to process and distribute contributions.
Democracy Engine LLC will collect a 4% + $0.30 processing fee on top of your contribution to the Democratic nominees. This sum covers both the processing fees—credit card, debit card, ACH, etc.—and costs of distribution to candidates. It also provides Democracy Engine with a small profit, which is required by campaign finance law. And just to compare: ActBlue collects 3.95%.
Democracy Engine has low rates and the services we need. So we're happy to work with them in our effort to crowdsource democracy, cut the GOP off at the knees, and make the country - and world - a better place.
